Serena Williams, in a match against her sister Venus, has claimed her 7th Australian Open victory, winning 6-4 6-4. This moves her back to the number one slot after having been defeated back in September against Angelique Kerber of Germany.

“It’s such a great feeling to have 23. It really feels great. I’ve been chasing it for a really long time. It feels like, really long time. When it got on my radar, I knew I had an opportunity to get there, and I’m here.” – Serena Williams

On top of that, she sets the record with 23 Grand Slam single titles in the Open Era for any man or woman. In honoring her sister Venus, she stated,

“There’s no way I could be at 23 without her. Thank you Venus for inspiring me to be the best player I can be.”
