After noticing that there were not many girls, especially other brown girls, pursuing coding, Alston decided to write a children’s book to highlight the basics. The main character of the book, Sasha Savvy Loves to Code, is a 10-year-old who developed a natural interest in coding.

Alston launched a Kickstarter earlier this year, where she exceeded her $5,000 goal with a whopping $17,000.

The book is anticipated to become available on Amazon in June 2017.
