Richard Collins III (23) was a victim of a hate crime –  stabbed to death in a random attack by Sean Christopher Urbanski (22) on the University of Maryland campus following a party. He was waiting for an Uber at a bus stop with friends when he was attacked. The campus is located just 10 miles from where he was a student at Bowie State University. He had just been commissioned as a second lieutenant into the U.S. Army only 2 days prior.

Collins III was set to graduate today, May 23, 2017. But instead, his parents are making funeral arrangements.

During the Bowie State University Class of 2017 commencement ceremony, there was a moment of silence led by university president, Mickey L. Burnim, to honor the life of their slain scholar, friend, classmate and colleague.

The discovery of Urbanski’s dealings with a white supremacist Facebook group called “Alt Reich: Nation”, sparked an FBI investigation into classifying it as a hate crime.
