Veteran actor and TV’s grandpa (aka Russell Huxtable on The Cosby Show) has died at age 91. Earle Hyman, a native of North Carolina, passed away at his home in Englewood New Jersey Friday.

Hyman had a very extensive resume, having made his first Broadway debut in 1943 as a teenager. However, he was best known for his role in The Cosby Show, where he played “Cliff Huxtable’s” father. In that role, he earned an Emmy nomination for guest performer in 1986. Hyman further went on to become a charter member of the American Shakespeare Theater, and had also earned a Tony nomination for The Lady of Dubuque.
